Doing some resesarch on my great-grandfather’s ship, I came across this weird anecdote (in bold):
Captain Eriksen first went to sea at the age of 14 on a Norwegian barkentine. He has been with the Panama Line since 1927 when he began his service as First Officer on the S. S. Guayaquil.
